Jeff Parkin Nominated for State Representative 118th Milford

Jeff Parkin was unanimously nominated as our candidate for State Representative in the 118th House District at the Milford Republican Town Committee on May 19. Jeff Parkin spoke about the standards he will adhere to as our State Representative.

“My support or opposition to legislation will be guided by my belief in limited government and individual rights. I support transparency in legislation. Late night discussions that result in 300 page bills being presented for a vote with little time for review is not the way to legislate. said Jeff Parkin. Lastly, it seems like here in Connecticut we tax everything, everywhere, every day. Government should strive for minimum necessary taxation.” added Jeff.

There are many issues facing citizens in our state including tax relief. Does the temporary tax relief that state legislators authorized meet the needs of households and businesses battered by periods of Covid shutdowns and now uncontrolled inflation. Did they do enough considering the large amount of federal funds received by the State and the budget surplus? The state’s coffers are overflowing but many households have lost ground. Republicans were able to influence a bi-partisan budget that included spending controls in 2017. This contributed to the current budget surplus and gives us an opportunity for meaningful permanent tax relief. Democratic legislators had a chance to do this but failed.

We must do everything we can to make Connecticut a more affordable state to live and do business in. The legislature can end policies that push business away and instead cut taxes and regulations to attract new business that will increase revenues and expand job opportunities. Jeff Parkin and his wife Angela moved to Milford from Kent, CT. While in Kent, Jeff served two terms on the Board of Selectman.

“Milford has proven to be a friendly and welcoming town; we are delighted to call it home.” said Parkin.
